Why Autumn/Winter 2017 Is Going To Be The Best!

lifestyle

Bonjour!

So there are many reasons why I’m super excited for this autumn/winter to get in full-swing. Here are just a few…

Moneyyyyy! For the first time in my life (apart from my gap year) I am working a full-time job with no money commitments; last time I was saving every penny for uni and travelling. Of course, I am trying to save to move out, but that’s just a ‘if I have the pennies, I’ll put them away’ kinda save. Anyway, this means that I am, for the first time, able to spend as much money as I possibly can on Christmas! I’ve always dreamed of a Christmas where I can spend loads on my family’s presents, buy myself a tree and decs and all the crappy nutcracker ornaments I can fit in my basket!

Job prospects. So I work as a teaching assistant in a secondary school, but my absolute dream job is to work in literacy intervention for kids who needs extra English lessons. I love the school I work in at the moment and never want to leave, but I was beginning to worry that I might have to, as I can’t stay as a TA forever… I have done an English degree and taken a Higher Level Teaching Assistant course to prepare me for my dream job role- now it’s all about applying!

Autumn/winter vibes in general… So who doesn’t love cosy autumn nights? Or trips to the nearest field hosting a firework display? Trick or treating (or in my case, getting no trick or treaters and eating a hundred packets of sweets in one evening). Cosy jumpers, dark evenings, stinging rain, frozen lips and icy windscreens. Can it get any better? Not to even mention Christmas!!

Graduation!!! So I graduate in just over a week’s time… How scary is that? I’m thinking of doing a post all about my uni experiences and struggles. When I look back, I can’t believe I am where I am today. I never thought I would ever be graduating from university with a 2:1 in English Literature and Creative Writing. Little ol’ me.

Plans with friends. I’m so excited about doing autumny/wintery things with people this year and have made so many plans to get me super excited. Christmas market visiting, pumpkin picking, concerts in Sheffield (well, just the one, but woo!), road trips and Christmas parties…

Let me know what your autumn/winter plans are and why you’re excited for the changing season.

5 Fave Books I’ve Read Over the Summer

lifestyle

Bonjour…

So I have the most diverse taste in books, as you’ll be able to tell from this post. I will literally read anything! Here are some of the best I’ve come across this summer holiday:

  1. Dunkirk: The History Behind the Major Motion Picture by Joshua Levine

I went to see the Christopher Nolan film Dunkirk at the start of the holidays and it was amazing. However, I felt ashamed of myself! Even though I’d studied History to A Level, I had very little knowledge about what had happened at Dunkirk. I decided to buy this book of the history behind the film to get more of an in-depth knowledge on the subject. I found it to be the most interesting book vie read in a long time! It’s full of hundreds of little anecdotes from serving soldiers in WWII and in those who were involved in the Dunkirk evacuation. And, even better, I feel like I’ve learned a lot on the subject.

  1. Dunkirk: The Screenplay by Christopher Nolan.

(There’s a theme here…). A friend of mine bought this for me when I said I loved reading screenplays, I know, what a good friend! I really enjoyed the film (as I said) but was unsure how the screenplay would read as there is very little dialogue in the film. It was a really enjoyable read and, having seen the film, it’s easy to imagine scenes and what is actually going on, like watching the film all over again!

  1. Songs About a Girl by Chris Russell

Told you it was diverse. This book caught my attention in WH Smith as part of the Zoella book club. I love a good fan-fiction style read, and this is a classic ‘normal girl meets famous guy and he somehow likes her’, as if, right? But it’s a fun read all the same…

  1. The Tempest by William Shakespeare

Bear with here… I went on a lil weekend away to Stratford-Upon-Avon this holiday. I absolutely love Shakespeare. I studied English Literature at uni and did a module on Shakey himself, which was my fave. The Tempest is my favourite play and I haven’t read it for YEAR. The gift shop in Stratford were selling BEAUTIFUL versions of the plays so I (obv) had to buy the best one. I also really enjoy reading plays (and screenplays) as I find them so much simpler to read- they just cut the faff out, don’t they?

  1. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling

My next challenge is to read the Harry Potter books. I would call myself a Harry Potter fan as I know a lot about the franchise, but I haven’t read the books in order since they came out (I was seven when the Philosopher’s Stone came out)! And so begins the Harry Potter challenge…

Thanks for reading,

I’d love to know what books you’re enjoying this year, as I’m always looking for reccs!

Q&A: Get to Know Me Tag…

Blog, Q&A

Bonjour!

Thank you so much for all of your Q&A questions! I absolutely love doing these. Let’s get straight into it, shall we?

What are your favourite high street shops?

As you can see from most of my hauls and OOTDs, I absolutely love Primark and, genuinely, don’t know what I ever did before it (does anyone?!). Honestly, if I’m looking for anything I will always check Primark first. I do also love New Look and H&M and I’m also a sucker for Zara if I’m looking at spending a lil bit more…

Do you remember your first make-up item?

Yes! I went into Tammy Girl (REMEMBER THAT?!) one day and they were selling a roll-on clear lip-gloss with floating silver heart confetti in it. I remember absolutely plastering it on and I can still remember the smell… amazing.

Who would you say is your number 1 fashion inspiration?

I try, and fail, to follow more of an ‘indie/alternative’ fashion style, so I love people like Alexa Chung and Suki Waterhouse (I WISH, RIGHT!?). But honestly, I love Zoe Sugg’s (Zoella’s) style and tend to buy a lot of what she wears. Not only do I love her style, but I kind of know what she wears will suit me too as we have a similar body shape. Not to mention that she shops on the high street, so more often than not you can buy her EXACT outfit- PERF!

Celebrity crush?

Harry Styles. Is that even a question?

What is the one thing your readers would be surprised to hear?

I’m only 22 but have worked for nearly 5 years as a Teaching Assistant in a secondary school, and I love it! I’m an aspiring Student Welfare Officer as I’d love to help teens get through the tough school years…

Where is your favourite place to be?

I have two… My happy place is a place called Fingle Bridge, which is a National Trust forest on Dartmoor. I just adore it. It’s so beautiful and inspires me when writing so much. And the second is home, in my bed, obvs.

Do you have any pets?

I have a LOVELY lil black cat called Roxy. We got her when I was 12 and although she’s a dribbly old lady, I love her with all my mushy (crazy cat lady) heart.

What is your favourite song at the moment?

I’m a massive music fan and love everything from 1D to Joy Division. My all time fave band is The Killers and they’ve just released a new song called ‘Run for Cover‘, so obvs gotta say that 😉FullSizeRender (12)

‘Stuck on the Puzzle’- My Debut Novella!

Blog

Hey guys!

I am very excited to finally announce the publication of my very first novella! It is available to download on Amazon Kindle (or the Kindle app on iPhone or iPad)…

I would absolutely love for you to read it and leave a review to let me know what you think!

It’s only around 5,000 words, so a short story, and only costs £1.99, so what have you got to lose, really? 😉

Give it a go!
